UNCHARTED WATERS - THE TRAILER

Just finishing the edit for my latest film production "Uncharted Waters" Filmed some 250 miles off the coast of Mozambique, this film follows a group of anglers in search of giant fish that frequent this isolated area of the Indian Ocean. Filming in waters that are too far from land for viable rescue by air, not far from pirates does concentrate the mind. Filming alone in the water with very large sharks, that are not used to any human contact heightens the senses! Full blog with behind the scenes information to follow.

Bluefin will be re-branding shortly.
The last few years has seen the name Bluefin become overused in the media world. I have therefore decided that the timing is right for a new brand identity.
The name will change to Stuart Morgan Productions, the customer service will remain as always, top priority.
A fresh new website is on the horizon as is an exciting new business offering. The current site will redirect to the new one automatically, so watch this space.

I am looking forward to collaborating with some new clients based locally in the Cotswolds. Keep an eye out for these short feature films.

A two camera shoot, including audio services were used to film guest speakers, highlights and patient interviews, for the Net patient Foundation conference in Newbury.

A busy October and November

Several new projects and clients kept us busy during the Autumn.

Some experimental 360 degree photography and video proved very worthwhile, with further bookings for early in the new year as a result.

Stuart has recently returned from an epic filming trip in Mozambique. A two week expedition some 260 miles out into the ocean, more than 36 hours away from the nearest populated landmass, filming subsurface and on board, in shark filled waters. Stuart " I have never been in such close proximity with so many sharks, it was like Jurassic Park"
Stuart is currently editing this film.

Another 36 hours and we will be there!

Well known angler, author and TV star Mick Brown, was signing off his new book at the printers.
This is Mick's first self published book, the production of which was handled by Stuart.

Trakker have just uploaded my slightly humorous video short, that I filmed for them in the Maldives. I was persuaded to take one of their tents (Bivvy) with me as they liked the idea of a bivvy, designed for use in the UK, being photographed on a desert island.
A plan was hatched and Trakker have now uploaded the video onto their main site, with a caption competition running throughout July, to win the product by submitting the best film ending.

Arabic Editing

Just finishing one of the Arabic DVD's for a client. Always makes you think carefully, when you edit in the knowledge that you can't speak any Arabic! 155 paragraphs, and re-time the whole edit to fit. A few late nights at the edit desk. Almost there.

Here is a Low res quick edit that Big Carp Ltd requested for their website. Footage was filmed locally in Italy, in standard definition. We often get asked to edit from footage captured live at the lakeside. It usually goes something like, can you take what we shot and make something of it.

You can tell that the captor (John lllewellyn), was a happy chap when he landed this carp.

DSLR video continues to be a popular request from Bluefin clients. We have invested in this area, with cameras of choice from Canon, namely the 5dMk2, 7d and 60d being used in our productions on a regular basis. The shallow depth of field and "filmic" look from these cameras is definitely in vogue at the moment. DSLR cameras have many other benefits and compliment the footage shot with our other tapeless cameras.

We have been very busy of late, putting the finishing touches on DVD's and web videos for our clients as well as self publishing another angling DVD called "Lifting The Lid", which has been very well received.

Booking are looking good for 2011, with confirmed video shoots booked as far ahead as October and November. These include filming trips in the UK as well as France, USA, South Africa and Mozambique.

We are looking forward to working with our current clients in addition to some new names.

Exciting times ahead for us and our customers.

Here is the intro to a just finished Carp fishing DVD called "lifting the Lid".
It features underwater and about surface video, showing the topography and methods used in todays gravel pit fishing. Presented by Richard "cash" Farnan and Mark Bryant.
The full DVD is 110 mins in length and will be sold throughout the UK's angling outlets as well as on line.

Shooting in the Maldives

Just returned from the Maldives. Shooting some underwater pics & a video short for two clients. Finally got there after the mayhem at Heathrow saw my flights cancelled for 3 days on the trot. The final journey involved a road trip to Paris, a flight to the Maldives via Columbo and a travel time of 37 hours!
Still worth it as a very special destination.

Trakker Products brief: To produce an inexpensive, mildly humorous video short of their new Tundra suit being tested in a non fishing environment. "If you can demonstrate the coats wind proof qualities, that would be great". Filmed and edited in one day, ready for upload onto the clients you tube page.

Bluefin were commissioned to make this product demonstration video. It consisted of five films, all scenario based, shot over 3 days. The full video is 30mins duration, the content is military based and therefore confidential. This is a publicity demo for the client (minus the voice over). We took charge of the whole project from storyboarding to delivery of the final product. The client is very happy with the results.

New underwater communication kit arrived!

I have just taken delivery of an underwater comms system that allows direct communication from diver to surface, diver to diver and surface to both. It is a wireless set-up using ultrasonics as the communication path with a 100-200m underwater range. The kit worked a treat today at the test.
A great safety addition and a very useful tool when it comes to positioning UW cameras and giving/receiving instructions from dry land.

I talk a lot anyway, so this purchase will not surprise those that know me, water offers no rest bite from the talkative one!

We have recently purchased new Sony XDcamEX, HD cameras that record onto tapeless media. This new workflow presents many benefits which include, faster turn-around, instant playback on location and improved picture quality.
With new cameras in the pipeline, we expect to be moving totally "tapeless" by the end of 2010.
